Meet Oral Surgeon Dr. Heatrice
Dr. Alexander Heatrice was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK, and attended the University of Oklahoma. During this time, he developed a passion for dentistry. He completed dental school at Howard University in Washington, DC. After graduation, Dr. Heatrice decided that serving his country was the most honorable service to others. He served in the United States Army for seven years. “The military molded the determination, commitment, and leadership characteristics that I have today. I will admit nothing compares to the comradery of service to our great nation.” Dr. Heatrice received a Master of Public Health degree from A.T. Still University. He also attended Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California for residency in Oral Facial Pain and Oral Medicine. He then entered the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program at Harlem Hospital Center, an affiliation with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. At the completion of this post graduate program in June 2020, he and his family now call St. Louis home. Dr. Heatrice has published several articles and continues with ongoing research projects. I have worked in private practice and performed full scope Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with an emphasis on dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, trauma, TMJ, orthognathic surgery and the treatment of pediatric patients, as well. My time as an attending surgeon at Barne Jewish Hospital and Mercy St. Louis has been one of tremendous growth for me in both knowledge and skill. Teaching residents in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and students and residents from multiple other medical and dental specialties has challenged me to constantly learn and stay at the forefront of advances in the field. While at Barnes Jewish Hospital, it was a pleasure to take on the most complex, demanding cases, often referred by other Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, General Dentists, Periodontists, Ear Nose and Throat and Plastic Surgery colleagues. Even with All on four procedures I can handle the most complex cases that require Zygomatic and/or Pterygoid implants. I guarantee no surgeon in the St louis area have done as many all on four implant surgeries. Dr. Heatrice is excited to provide service to the St Louis community.

What Is A Dental Implant?
The implant body or post is the portion of the implant that is inserted into the jawbone. The implant body integrates with the jawbone and becomes the anchor for the new tooth.
The implant abutment is the portion of the dental implant inside the crown. Sometimes the abutment is created with the implant body as one piece. Other times, it is separate and attached to the implant with a screw. The abutment shapes the gum tissue and supports the crown.
The dental implant crown is the portion of the dental implant you see, but if done correctly, no one can tell it is not a natural tooth. The crown is bonded or cemented to the implant abutment and is commonly made of a ceramic or zirconia material because of its naturally white color and strength.
