What Is A Dental Implant?
The implant body or post is the portion of the implant that is inserted into the jawbone. The implant body integrates with the jawbone and becomes the anchor for the new tooth.
The implant abutment is the portion of the dental implant inside the crown. Sometimes the abutment is created with the implant body as one piece. Other times, it is separate and attached to the implant with a screw. The abutment shapes the gum tissue and supports the crown.
The dental implant crown is the portion of the dental implant you see, but if done correctly, no one can tell it is not a natural tooth. The crown is bonded or cemented to the implant abutment and is commonly made of a ceramic or zirconia material because of its naturally white color and strength.

Dr. Eric Davis
Dr. Eric Davis is a native of Brooklyn, New York, but calls Belhaven, North Carolina his home. He is the youngest of four children born to his wonderful mother, Dorothy Davis. Dr. Davis graduated from John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven, NC with honors in 1984. He then went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene.
After practicing and teaching dental hygiene, he then enrolled in Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Davis excelled while at Meharry as he made the Dean's List throughout his matriculation. And as a tribute to his leadership skills he was voted class president for four straight years and was part-time faculty in the Department of Endodontics during his senior year. He graduated from Meharry in 2001 with honors.
As a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and alumnus of Meharry, Dr. Davis is committed to serving the underserved and being a positive role model in his community. He continually mentors future and present dental students and returns annually to Meharry to give a lecture on the transition from dental school to the real world of dentistry. His mission in private practice is to provide the highest quality dental care in a clean, safe, professional environment in a timely manner.
Dr. Davis' most coveted prize is his loving family. He has been married to his loving wife, Anissa Nicole, for over 8 years. Dr. and Mrs. Davis are blessed with two beautiful daughters, Alyssa Laurice, and Arica Patrice.
Dr. Davis works at the Durham location Mondays, Tuesdays. He works at the Hillsborough location on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Dr. Michael Thomas
Dr. Thomas was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Charlotte, NC. His education involves attending North Carolina Central University for his undergraduate degree and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for dental school.
Dr. Michael Thomas strives to provide the highest quality of care in all aspects of dentistry and continually educates himself in the latest advances in dental technology. After dental school Dr. Thomas continues to further his education by participating in many continuing education courses throughout the southeast.
He currently lives in Durham, NC with his lovely wife Monica and their two children; Michael and Alexander. Dr. Thomas, his wife and two children are active in their church as well as the local community. He spends much of his free time with his family, playing tennis, golf and enjoying the outdoors.
